Moving Day. For Serious.

October 21, 2007

For a few months now, people have been asking us when we’re officially moving.  Do we have a moving date?  Will we be in our house for Thanksgiving?  Christmas?

We’ve not had a specific date because there were a few things in NY that we needed to tie up before we could officially move.  We now have (almost*) everything finalized and we have our moving date!

December 20, 2007

Give or take a day or two.  That’s 58 days from today.  eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Our goal was to be out of our apartment before January 1, so we din’t have to pay another month’s rent.  We (read: ME) also really wanted to be in our house for Christmas.  So it just made sense for us to pack everything up before Christmas and just head down there at that point.  Sean will head back to NY on December 30th and close up any loose ends.  He’ll stay with his brother for a few days and than head home to North Carolina on January 2nd.

Head home to North Carolina!  That just blows my mind.

Oh and did I mention that our house is complete.  Everything is in.  It’s clean and shiny and crisp and new.  It’s just sitting there waiting for us to come love on her.  Oh and we will.

Dude. Grass.

The next 58 days are going to fly.  Half of those days will be spent in NY and the other half will be in NC.  Our plan (and we all know how I MUST have a plan) is to pickup our U-Haul trailer on Friday October 26th.  I’m installing the hitch on to our Highlander this week.  We’ll pack it up with everything we have in storage, and anything else we can take from the apartment that will fit into the trailer.  I’ve never hitched anything to a vehicle, so I imagine this is going to be loads of fun!!  FUN!

We’ll leave Sunday October 28th and drive half way, staying overnight somewhere in Virginia (probably Fredericksburg because that’s about the half-way point).  The rest of the trip will be made on Monday.  We want to arrive early enough in the day so that we aren’t completely exhausted and miserable the next day.

And that next day, October 30th, is the day we do our pre-settlement walk-through.  At that point we’ll make our punch list of items they need to fix/adjust/complete/touch-up.

Than we’ll spend the next week shopping for our appliances, setting up appointments for the alarm company, the cable company, electric, gas, water, shopping for all our “sets” (bedroom, living room, dining room) and other miscellaneous furniture and necessities like a lawn mower (the grass is still growing!), BBQ (cause I NEED to be able to grill, yo!), jacuzzi (HA!  Okay, maybe not yet, but if I can’t get a kid, I’m getting a freakin’ jacuzzi eventually!).  We can pick everything out and than have it delivered the following week.

On November 6th at 9:00AM we close on the house. They have told us to expect for closing to take no more than an hour.  So by 10:05AM (hopefully!  *fingers crossed*), we are going to be flipping out with the keys to our house in hand.  We’ll head back to my inlaws, where we’ll grab the kitties and our stuff, and head to our house.

This is where we aren’t sure what we’ll be doing.  Like, dude, what’s next?

I told Sean that I would like to just run around our house, yelling and screaming, blasting our music, watching the kitties explore every nook and cranny, while being completely naked and scaring all our neighbors!  He knows I’m for serious.

If we can get the cable/internet hooked up on the 6th all will be right in the world.  We’ll spend the next week or so getting situated with all our hook-ups and appliance/furniture deliveries.  We’re aiming to be back in NY by November 15th. Three weeks is a long time to be without my sleep number bed!  However, I think in the end, it’ll be just fine and worth all the back pain wink

These Litter Chests are such a neat idea.  We’ve been trying to come up with a plan for the litter box in our new house and this seems like it would be a perfect fit.  Discreet, yet it does the job perfectly.  We’ll be adding this to our list of things to get for the new house.
